Suppliers’ documentation


All documentation used in the production and supply of Forest Reproductive Material in Slovakia can be found in the English version of the Annexes to Decree no. 571/2004 of the Legal code of Slovakia dated . Annex 29 is the template which should accompany plants or seeds when they are marketed. It is shown below. The same document should be used when material is sent to other EU countries. However the English version is not always used and material may be shipped abroad with the supplier’s document in the Slovak language. The following template which requires some editing still, enables the importer to identify the important information.

When seed is marketed into other EU countries it may not always be accompanied by a suppliers document of exactly the above format. Some companies provide a multi-item document as below. Others provide a photocopy of the Master Certificate of the relevant seed lot and the Orange International Certificate. A copy of a Master Certificate issued by the Slovak authorities in 2005 is shown also.

Regions of Provenance in Slovakia

Since 1st January 2006 all forest research, forest management planning and training and education has been amalgamated in Slovakia into the one National Forest Centre in Zvolen. This Centre is now responsible for the implementaion of Decree number 571/2004 and the administration and selection of Regions of Provenance.

Annexes 19 to 25 of the Decree list by species the various forest regions which are included in the regions of provenance for the seven main forestry species of Slovakia (Picea abies, Abies alba, Pinus sylvestris, Larix deciduas, Fagus sylvatica, Quercus petraea and Quercus robur in that order). No maps are currently available of these regions but they differ significantly between each species except for Pinus sylvestris and Larix deciduas which are identical . The list of forest districts in the above annexes are separated into those within the natural range and those outside the natural range. Each region is named according to its geology and the Tatra Mountains and foothills range and Vychodné hills significantly influence the regions and they are numbered simply from 1 up to 8 for each species.
